This February, Gallery Luperca presents The Old Testament of Kink, a new exhibition from photographer Sebastian Smith, curated by Lindsay Goranson of N&XT. The show will run from February 12th to March 5th, including an open reception on Friday, February 26th from 6 to 9 pm, and closing reception on Saturday, March 5th from 6 to 8pm. Additionally, the gallery will host a special event, ‘Sneak PeAk: An Evening of Pleasure for the Senses’, on the evening of February 12th from 7 to 9 pm.
Sebastian Smith is an internationally celebrated photographer currently based in Nashville, TN; he has been featured in a multitude of publications and galleries around the world, and received wide critical acclaim. For The Old Testament of Kink, he presents us with fifteen new images, richly textured and boldly confrontational, fierce and unflinching.
In addition to serving as visual provocation, each piece of this fifteen image series functions as a tool of double exposition; documenting two alternative human impulses in the context of sexuality: to expose and conceal. Although explicit in nature, the images are a reminder that our personal sexual preferences and tastes are typically shielded from those who are not directly a part of them. These secret identities— which are for the greater whole, viewed as separate lives— are therefore the complexity of societal implication made evident, both preserving and inhibiting basic human impulse. Please contact the gallery for more information, or to inquire about event availability.
